Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Roberto Jimenez (ranked 3262 p4p, 2465 weight class) and Cuervo Oquendo (ranked 418 p4p, 325 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Cuervo Oquendo was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Cuervo Oquendo!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, William Gold and Chris Edwards.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jimenez keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Jimenez throws a body shot but no joy.
Oquendo misses with a looping right.
Jimenez half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Oquendo throws an overhand right that lands on Jimenez's shoulder, as Jimenez tries to avoid the shot.

Jimenez cracks Oquendo with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
We've been hearing reports that Jimenez has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Cuervo Oquendo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Oquendo dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Jimenez. That did some damage!

Jimenez wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Oquendo, who protects the arm well.
Oquendo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jimenez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
You can see the frustration on Oquendo's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Jimenez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Oquendo keeps working.

Jimenez is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Oquendo has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Oquendo!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Oquendo can do anything to dispel that myth.

Jimenez has control of Oquendo's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Oquendo regains control of the situation pretty easily.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Oquendo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jimenez swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
