PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ricky Martin (ranked 4226 p4p, 4492 weight class) and Hayden Allen (ranked 0 p4p, 230 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ricky Martin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Hayden Allen!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Glass and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Allen drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Allen tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Allen has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Martin manages to get back to half guard.

Allen stands up out of the half guard.
Allen shoots in for a double leg but Martin sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Martin lands a lovely overhand right.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Allen misses with a left hand

and Martin counters with a takedown into side control.

Allen sneaks out the side door and pushes Martin away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Allen drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Allen content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Allen must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Allen postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Martin is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Allen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Martin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Martin lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Allen moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Martin connects with a couple of short punches.
Martin lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Allen pushes Martin off and scrambles back to his feet.

Allen fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Martin feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Allen scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Martin throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Allen stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Martin keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Ricky Martin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hayden Allen.
Martin displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Allen.

Martin shoots and misses

and Allen counters by moving into the clinch.
Martin wants a takedown.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Martin lands a right hand that snaps the head of Allen backwards.
Martin has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Allen is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Allen pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Martin shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Allen pinned against the cage. Allen gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
As Martin backs off Allen throws a huge counter combo but Martin manages to avoid it all.
Martin avoids a punch combination nicely.
Allen tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Martin swivels and escapes.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Allen decides to pull guard.
Allen pulls Martin in to control the position.
Martin wants to pass the guard but Allen is keeping the position.

Martin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Allen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Martin working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Allen's head.

Allen pulls Martin in close to his closed guard and prevents Martin from doing any damage or advancing position.
Martin lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Allen avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Martin throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Allen works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Hayden Allen has got the better of the ground game so far.
Allen is controlling Martin's posture.
Martin trying to control but Allen is working from the bottom.
Martin postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Allen throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Martin keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Allen's head.
Martin stands up over Allen, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Martin stands and throws Allen's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Allen tries to bench press Martin off him but Martin keeps the position.
Martin wants to control but Allen is keeping him busy.

Allen throws Martin to one side and escapes!

Allen is struggling to control the position.

Allen tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Martin just stands there and leans against the cage.
Martin has had enough of the clinch but Allen keeps him there for the moment.

Allen's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Martin stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Hayden Allen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Martin works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Martin shoots in and gets a takedown into Allen's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Allen has Martin pulled in close to control his posture.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Allen escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Martin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
