PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Islam Mokaev (ranked 4406 p4p, 4566 weight class) and Max Archer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Islam Mokaev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Max Archer!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, William Gold and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mokaev tries to score a power double leg takedown but Archer sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mokaev somewhat.
Mokaev closes the distance but Archer moves to the side

so Archer counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Mokaev might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Mokaev looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Archer has picked Mokaev up and slammed him! Mokaev can't keep hold of the triangle and Archer manages to pass to side control!
Mokaev tries to bench press Archer off him but Archer keeps the position.

Archer is trying to get an arm triangle but Mokaev is defending well.
Archer working the ground and pound but Mokaev is defending the strikes.
You can see the frustration on Mokaev's face as Archer controls the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Archer tries to score with some ground and pound. Mokaev controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Archer remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Archer tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Archer has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Mokaev is looking to regain half guard here but Archer keeps moving and retains side control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Archer has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Archer gets to his feet. Mokaev looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Mokaev tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Archer defends well and Mokaev ends up having to push Archer into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Archer wants to counter the offense by Mokaev and move into the clinch position.
Mokaev tries to pull guard but Archer forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Archer wants the takedown. Mokaev is fighting it off but Archer persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Mokaev's guard against the cage.
Archer controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Archer wants to control from the top but Mokaev keeps moving.

Archer is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Mokaev throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Archer escapes and throws Mokaev's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Archer wants to control but Mokaev is keeping him busy.

Archer stands up.
Mokaev fails with an attempt to clinch.
Mokaev tries to close the distance and clinch up but Archer swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Archer throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Mokaev throws an off balance right hand

so Archer counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Archer is breathing heavily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Archer in particular looking to stall.
Max Archer has got the better of the ground game so far.

Max Archer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Mokaev is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Archer gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Archer has had enough of the clinch but Mokaev keeps him there for the moment.

Mokaev tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Archer smiles and moves away.

Archer manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Mokaev on his heels. He'll look to pass Mokaev's guard now, I'm sure.
Archer must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Mokaev has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Archer should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Mokaev has tightened it up now! Archer should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
