Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Howlett (ranked 676 p4p, 1568 weight class) and Patrick Matthew (ranked 103 p4p, 214 weight class). Howlett's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Indestructible. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James Howlett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Patrick Matthew!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Alyssa Summers and David Schapiro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Howlett with that takedown attempt.
Matthew throws a hook to the side of Howlett's head but Howlett sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Howlett closes the distance and clinches up with Matthew, looking for a takedown. Howlett pushes Matthew against the cage but Matthew circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Howlett is looking to clinch.
Matthew appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.

and Matthew counters with a right hand to the body.
Matthew looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Howlett closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Matthew to the mat! Matthew manages to get full guard.
Matthew is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Matthew is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Matthew really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Howlett. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Howlett controls Matthew momentarily but Matthew frees himself.
Howlett is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Matthew is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Howlett has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Matthew doesn't defend quickly enough and Howlett has managed to lock this one up! Can Matthew escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Howlett on a fantastic submission victory.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). James Howlett!
