The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Shaver shoots in and gets a takedown into Provodnikov's guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Provodnikov (0) vs (2) Shaver Shaver wants to control from the top but Provodnikov keeps moving. Provodnikov on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Provodnikov tries to get out of the position. Shaver forces his way into half guard. Shaver is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Provodnikov! Score +3 for passing guard: Provodnikov (0) vs (5) Shaver Shaver controlling from mount. Provodnikov is looking to improve his position but Shaver isn't that keen on the idea. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Provodnikov wants to control but Shaver is having none of it. Provodnikov knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Shaver on the ground. Provodnikov is trying to escape the mount.

Well, with Shaver on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Provodnikov is tapping out... Can he escape the position? What can Provodnikov do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Provodnikov looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. Provodnikov fending off the submission attempt from Shaver. Shaver avoiding Provodnikov 's attempts to control his hands. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Shaver trying to control. Shaver is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Provodnikov tries to roll but Shaver sticks to his back.
Shaver wants to control but Provodnikov is keeping busy. Provodnikov's corner are yelling at him, telling him to just focus on controlling Shaver's hands. Provodnikov defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.

That's five minutes gone in the round. Shaver is looking for a choke. Provodnikov gets to his feet with his opponent on his back and slams him to the mat. Provodnikov manages to squirm out of the attempted choke and turns into his opponent's guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Provodnikov (2) vs (8) Shaver Provodnikov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shaver swivels though and keeps the full guard. Shaver keeping moving, preventing Provodnikov from controlling successfully. Provodnikov sitting in guard here, content to control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Provodnikov looking to pass the guard. Shaver has his hands on Provodnikov's head, controlling the position. Provodnikov controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Shaver lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Provodnikov (2) vs (10) Shaver Provodnikov tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Shaver is pushing down on Provodnikov's leg trying to pass to half guard. Provodnikov is fighting to maintain full guard but Shaver has managed to sneak the leg through. Shaver wants to lay and pray for a moment but Provodnikov keeps working. Shaver not doing much here.
Shaver is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Provodnikov sees it coming and defends easily. Shaver uses his free foot to push down on Provodnikov's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Provodnikov. Score +3 for passing guard: Provodnikov (2) vs (13) Shaver Provodnikov is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Provodnikov gets back to half guard. Shaver works his way into side control. Score +3 for passing guard: Provodnikov (2) vs (16) Shaver Provodnikov tries to buck Shaver off but Shaver is having none of it. Provodnikov is not content to let Shaver control the position. Provodnikov prevents Shaver from improving position.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Shaver is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Provodnikov looks calm but he's in trouble here. Shaver gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Provodnikov is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Shaver lets go of the hold and Provodnikov can pop his arm back in it's socket.
