The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Menggetu is looking to stand up but Sanders isn't so interested in that idea.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Menggetu is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sanders can do anything to dispel that myth.

Menggetu takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Sanders really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Menggetu. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Menggetu is keen to just control but Sanders is a slippery customer.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Balagachi Menggetu.
I think Sanders has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
