PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Edvard Matiae (ranked 3831 p4p, 24635 weight class) and Rico Salvacion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Edvard Matiae!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rico Salvacion!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Valeri Chadov and Illya Tyunina.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Salvacion drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Matiae gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Salvacion passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Salvacion controls the position.
Matiae wants to get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Matiae is trying to escape the position but Salvacion is controlling the position.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Matiae is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Salvacion asserts his dominance and retains side control.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Matiae definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Matiae lands a body shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Salvacion ducks right into an uppercut from Matiae.

Salvacion shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Matiae napping and manages to drive through into side control!
You can see the frustration on Matiae's face as Salvacion controls the position.
Matiae tries to escape but Salvacion is in control.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Salvacion prevents Matiae from escaping the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Salvacion just content to control the position.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Matiae is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Salvacion has just dragged him back down to the mat.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Matiae lands with a shot to the body.
Matiae jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

Salvacion is rocked!

Matiae instigates a clinch.
Salvacion is still on wobbly legs! Can Matiae finish him?
A short right hand to the side of the head by Matiae.
Salvacion looks winded!
Matiae stalling.
Matiae lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Matiae dips a shoulder and cracks Salvacion with a mighty uppercut! Salvacion falls back against the cage and Matiae unloads with a barrage of strikes! Salvacion is completely out with his eyes open, only supported by the cage! Save him ref! Eventually the ref decides to do his job and jumps in - Matiae screams abuse at the incompetent official before going over to celebrate with his corner. Brutal stuff!
