3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gerald Timms! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Ivan Kurochkin and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Timms is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Arlovski's half guard. Arlovski actively working from the bottom here. Arlovski landing rabbit punches to the side of Timms's head. Not doing much damage but still scoring a few points. Timms is thwarting Arlovski's attempts to control the position. Arlovski looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Timms landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Timms bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Arlovski misses with an elbow from the bottom. Arlovski manages to get back to half guard. Timms thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Arlovski's head. Arlovski makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Arlovski. Arlovski is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Arlovski scoring with strikes to the body and head. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Timms can do anything to dispel that myth. Timms is breathing heavily. Arlovski takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Nice strikes from Arlovski there. Arlovski working Timms over with strikes. Arlovski winds up and cracks Timms with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Arlovski is looking for a kimura but Timms is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Arlovski to get the leverage. Arlovski looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Timms with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Arlovski working over Timms with some ground and pound. Timms looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Arlovski seems to be looking for submissions.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Arlovski throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Timms was covering up waiting for the punch and Arlovski finishes the takedown easily into guard. Arlovski drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Arlovski jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Arlovski working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Timms's head. Arlovski trying to control the position from guard on top but Timms is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Timms is trying to keep Arlovski in close.

Arlovski lands a nice forearm strike. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Timms tries to buck Arlovski off but Arlovski is having none of it. Timms is not content to let Arlovski control the position.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Arlovski shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Timms counters with a single leg into guard. Arlovski didn't expect that. Timms lands a couple of digs.

Timms slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Arlovski has his foot on Timms's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Arlovski shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Timms as he jumps to the side. Arlovski gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Timms counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Arlovski flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
