PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Joao Gamer (ranked 4516 p4p, 4318 weight class) and Mitch Bellard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joao Gamer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mitch Bellard!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Edson Gomes and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bellard shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Gamer counters with a straight right hand.

Bellard closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Gamer's guard.
Bellard tries to free his leg and advance position but Gamer is retaining full guard.
Bellard controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Let's hope that Bellard has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bellard postures up in Gamer's guard and throws a big left but Gamer blocks it.

Bellard wants to control from the top but Gamer keeps moving.
Bellard throwing strikes from guard but Gamer blocks nicely.
Bellard pushing down on Gamer's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Bellard thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Bellard shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gamer but Gamer pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Bellard fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Gamer sprawls well initially but Bellard persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Gamer tries to get to full guard but Bellard has control of the leg.
Gamer knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bellard on the ground.

Bellard wants to take a breather but Gamer is having none of it.
Gamer is looking for a sweep. Bellard is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Bellard throwing shots but Gamer is blocking nicely.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Bellard wants to free his trapped foot but Gamer is holding on for dear life with his legs.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Bellard ducks under a wild hook from Gamer.
Bellard looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Gamer is fending him off so far but Bellard persists. Nope, Gamer circles away and we're back to standing.
A quick step to the side and Gamer tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Joao Gamer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mitch Bellard.

Bellard shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Gamer regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Bellard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bellard trying to control the position from guard on top but Gamer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Mitch Bellard dominated that round.

Bellard bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Bellard wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gamer keeps working.
Bellard controlling the position.
Bellard throws an elbow but Gamer slips to the side and avoids it well.

Bellard wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gamer, who protects the arm well.
Bellard has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Bellard is looking to take a break and control but Gamer is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Gamer on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Gamer tries to get out of the position.
Bellard advances nicely into full mount.

Bellard looking for a guillotine from mount but Gamer is having none of it.
Bellard trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Poor strikes thrown by Bellard there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Bellard throwing strikes here but Gamer is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Gamer is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Bellard wants to control the pace but Gamer is squirming around nicely.

Bellard looking to secure an arm triangle but Gamer defends it well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bellard lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Bellard sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Gamer tries to improve his position but instead Bellard has taken his back!

Bellard thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.
Bellard wants to control the position but Gamer frees himself and scrambles - Bellard manages to regain control in side control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Mitch Bellard showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Bellard is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Gamer looks calm but he's in trouble here. Bellard gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Gamer is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Bellard lets go of the hold and Gamer can pop his arm back in it's socket.
