Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Gomes (ranked 2988 p4p, 4277 weight class) and Terrell Yates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Johnny Gomes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Terrell Yates!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Yves DeLean and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gomes throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Yates.
Gomes scores with a takedown into Yates's guard.
Yates controls Gomes momentarily but Gomes frees himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gomes controls from within his opponent's guard.
Gomes stands and steps away. Yates gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Yates bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Gomes's head backwards.
Gomes feints and then cracks Yates's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Yates down.
Yates is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Gomes.
Yates jabs Gomes right on the nose. Gomes blinks but takes it well.
Gomes blocks a leg kick.

Terrell Yates is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Yates misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Yates takes a swing at Gomes's ribcage but misses.
A looping hook to the body misses from Yates. Gomes does a little dance to reset his feet.
Gomes could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Gomes shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Yates is trying to defend but Gomes finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Gomes drops an elbow to the side of Yates's head.
Yates really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gomes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Gomes tries to pass to full mount but Yates defends it.
Gomes is looking for a kimura here.
Yates is looking to improve his position.

Gomes stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Gomes has closed the distance and engaged Yates in a clinch.
Yates is trying to push Gomes away but Gomes has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Gomes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Yates connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Gomes has a takedown stuffed.

Yates looks to score with a jab to the body but Gomes is just out of range.
Gomes went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Gomes keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Gomes closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Yates is letting Gomes control him for a moment.
Gomes working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Gomes tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gomes has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Yates struggling a bit here.

Gomes has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Johnny Gomes will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Gomes moves into range and clinches up with Yates.
Gomes breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Gomes misses with a takedown attempt
enabling Yates to counter with a crisp jab.
Gomes tries for a takedown but Yates circles away easily
and Yates counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Gomes pushes Yates up against the cage in a clinch.
Gomes blocks an uppercut.
Yates is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Yates is pressed up against the cage. Gomes has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Yates down to the mat. Yates avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Yates throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
An attempted straight right counter from Gomes misses the target.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Gomes breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Yates tests Gomes's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Yates scores with a nice body kick.
Yates throws a body punch but Gomes moves out of range.
Yates scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Gomes doesn't seem bothered though.
Gomes moves forwards but Yates connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Yates scores with a crisp jab that stopped Gomes in his tracks.
Yates throws a shot to the body.
A lazy left from Yates finds it's target.
Gomes throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Yates's waist but Yates gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gomes off to one side.
Yates feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Gomess jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
A head kick misses from Yates.
Gomes was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Gomes takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Yates lands with a good body shot.
Yates cracks Gomes with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Gomes on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Yates throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Yates works the jab nicely.
Yates punishes Gomes's body with a nice straight punch.
Gomes blocks the body kick.
Yates scores with a leg kick.
Gomes looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Nice shot by Yates.
Terrell Yates seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Yates cracks Gomes with an open hand slap.
Yates connects with a body shot that sends Gomes's belly button to the back.

Yates swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Gomes.
Yates connects with a jab.
Terrell Yates seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Yates wants to slow Gomes down by chopping away at his legs.
Gomes closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Yates swings for the body but Gomes moves out of range.
Yates fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
A head kick from Yates lands but Gomes takes it in his stride.
Gomes is rocked!

Oh Gomes is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Yates feints with a jab and clips Gomes right behind the ear with a massive overhand right! Gomes is sent crashing into the canvas and Yates leaps in for the kill! Gomes tries to get to his feet but Yates is just battering him from every conceivable angle. The ref decides that Gomes is in need of a savior and steps in!
