PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alexei Thorgard (ranked 3584 p4p, 5505 weight class) and Heavy Dude (ranked 405 p4p, 502 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alexei Thorgard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Heavy Dude!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Frank Dennis and Chris Downing.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dude lunges at Thorgard with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Thorgard's hand.
Thorgard keeps the fight on the outside.
Thorgard slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

It looks like Heavy Dude has been cut.
Dude fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Thorgard looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Dude has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Dude there as he acknowledges the shot.
A slow jab from Thorgard misses its intended target.
Heavy Dude seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dude tries to close the distance and clinch but Thorgard swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and Thorgard counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Thorgard is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Thorgard accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Dude wants to get back to his feet but Thorgard is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Thorgard is working Dude over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Thorgard stands up over Dude, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Thorgard is looking to work some ground and pound but Dude has wrist control.
Thorgard has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Dude avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Thorgard postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Dude is looking to stand up but Thorgard isn't so interested in that idea.
Thorgard postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

That has opened up Heavy Dude's cut even more.
Thorgard throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Dude works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Thorgard lands a couple of decent looking shots.

The cut above Heavy Dude's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Heavy Dude's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

In his post fight interview, Alexei Thorgard started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
