PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Millard Masters (ranked 2106 p4p, 1281 weight class) and Valerio Falto (ranked 226 p4p, 145 weight class). Masters comes to the cage accompanied by Enter the Sandman. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Millard Masters!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Valerio Falto!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Phil Schofield and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Falto slips a jab and a cross from Masters.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Falto! But no joy.
Masters throws a body shot but no joy.
A combination from Masters does no damage.

Masters shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Falto's guard.

Falto is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Masters is aware though and is defending well.
We've been hearing good reports from Masters's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Masters's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Falto has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Masters is working away from the top position though.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Masters takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Masters throws a series of punches but Falto avoids them all with ease.

Masters feints and as Falto raises his hands in defense, Masters changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Masters is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Falto can do to turn this around?

Masters tries to pass the half guard into mount. Falto knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Masters frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Masters has hold of Falto's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Falto manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Masters wants to control the pace but Falto is squirming around nicely.

Masters looking to control and managing it successfully.
Falto is looking to improve his position but Masters isn't that keen on the idea.

Masters is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Falto to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Falto shrugs it off.
Falto tries to reverse the position but Masters maintains control.
Falto wants to hold on but Masters pushes him away.
Falto manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Masters is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Falto is just riding it out for now. Masters eventually gives up the hold.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Masters throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Masters shoots in but no luck this time.
It seemed like Falto was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Masters misses with a straight left.
Masters throws a right hand that Falto ducks under and follows up with a left that Falto also avoids with ease.
As Masters backs off Falto throws a huge counter combo but Masters manages to avoid it all.

Masters closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Falto working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Masters doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Masters manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Falto lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Falto is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Falto maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Masters could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Falto has cracked it and Masters is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Falto!

A victorious Valerio Falto thanked his army of followers in his post fight interview, telling people to make sure they follow him on Twitter.
Millard Masters spoke after the fight, saying 'Damn, I will go back to the gym and get stronger'.
