Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Herbert Mullin (ranked 2809 p4p, 3429 weight class) and Rico Cole (ranked 348 p4p, 395 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Cole's choice of entrance music: Gerardo's Rico Suave. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 17 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Herbert Mullin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 41 - 30 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Rico Cole!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Saam Ante and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mullin closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Cole tries to pull guard but Mullin holds him up against the cage and eventually Cole drops back down to his feet.
Mullin misses with a punch to the body.

Cole is trying to pull guard but Mullin turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Herbert Mullin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rico Cole.

Mullin tightens his grip and picks Cole up, before dumping him to the ground. Cole manages to land in guard.

Cole looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Mullin has picked Cole up and slammed him! Cole can't keep hold of the triangle and Mullin manages to pass to side control!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mullin stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Cole is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Mullin to keep the fight standing.

Cole jumps guard but Mullin turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Mullin breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Mullin closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Mullin seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Cole fails to pull guard.
Cole tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Mullin smiles and moves away.
Cole throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mullin tries to throw a body punch but Cole avoids it by throwing Mullin back against the cage.

Mullin manages to break the clinch.
Mullin listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Mullin takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Cole throws a hook to the side of Mullin's head but Mullin sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Cole has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Mullin has taken the fight to the clinch.
Mullin digs a right hand into Cole's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Cole's gas tank.
Cole tries to pull guard but Mullin holds him up against the cage and eventually Cole drops back down to his feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Cole tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

The referee is keeping an eye on Mullin - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Mullin gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Mullin decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Mullin forces Cole back against the cage and clinches.

Mullin works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Cole looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Mullin drops back looking for a leg! Cole is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Cole manages to kick Mullin off! Mullin jumps back into Cole's guard.

Mullin has picked Cole up - he's going for a ride! Mullin dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Cole wants to get back to full guard.
Mullin seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Mullin uses his free foot to push down on Cole's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Cole.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cole escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mullin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Cole is working to avoid the ground and pound but Mullin connects with a decent elbow.

Mullin wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Cole, who protects the arm well.
Mullin is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Cole's shoulder. That is not cool.
Cole manages to work his way to half guard, despite Mullin's best efforts.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Mullin is working for a submission of some sort.
Cole moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Mullin is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Cole is just riding it out for now. Mullin eventually gives up the hold.

Mullin has control of Cole's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Cole regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Herbert Mullin is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Mullin jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

Mullin feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
