PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Red Jesus Karter (ranked 1004 p4p, 1086 weight class) and Bryan Gracie (ranked 157 p4p, 170 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Gracie's choice of entrance music: Limp Bizkit - Rollin'. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Red Jesus Karter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bryan Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Percy O'Donnell and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Karter blocks a jab.
Gracie avoids a kick to the body.
Gracie tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Karter paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Karter's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Karter duly obliges.
Karter defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gracie.
Gracie misses with a takedown
and Karter makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Karter lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Karter throws a body kick, spinning off balance

so Gracie counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Karter on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Karter tries to get out of the position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gracie trying to control the position from guard on top but Karter is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Gracie might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Karter haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Gracie slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Gracie tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gracie is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Gracie is working for a submission of some sort.

Gracie is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Karter has managed to free his arm - good work.
Karter is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Casa Steel, so we'll see if he gets out of it.
Gracie content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Gracie is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Karter is concentrating on defense, preventing Gracie from advancing position.

Karter makes his way to full guard, as Gracie worked for a kimura.

Karter might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Gracie tries to free his leg and advance position but Karter is retaining full guard.
Gracie trying to control the position from guard on top but Karter is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Karter throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Karter moves into range and clinches up with Gracie.
Karter lands with a short punch from the clinch.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Red Jesus Karter dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Karter ducks under a wild hook from Gracie.
Gracie shoots in for a double leg but Karter sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Karter misses with a kick to the body

and Gracie decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Karter's guard.
Karter knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gracie on the ground.

Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Karter swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Gracie postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Karter is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Gracie, into his guard.


Gracie is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Karter defends well.
Karter passes Gracie's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Gracie gets back to half guard.

Gracie actively working from the bottom here.
Gracie is trying to control but can't.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Gracie thows a left - swing and a miss!

Gracie throws out a loose jab but Karter uses good head movement to avoid it.

Gracie closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Bryan Gracie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Karter drives through and clinches with Gracie against the cage.

Gracie throws a jab when Karter was well out of range.
Karter is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Karter misses with a looping right.
Gracie tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Karter takes a swing at Gracie's ribcage but misses.
And Gracie tries to counter it with a takedown but Karter pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Karter digs a good body shot into Gracie's ribs.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bryan Gracie has got the better of the ground game so far.

Gracie is keen to just control but Karter is a slippery customer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gracie is looking for a kimura but Karter is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gracie to get the leverage.

Gracie looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Gracie is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Karter doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Gracie.

Karter tries to roll over but Gracie keeps him under control.
Gracie wants to lay and pray for a moment but Karter keeps working.

Gracie is thwarting Karter's attempts to control the position.

Gracie is working for a kimura here but Karter manages to reverse the position and he's now in Gracie's guard.

Karter seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Gracie is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Gracie is trying to control but can't.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Red Jesus Karter.
I think Karter has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
