Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Renter (ranked 5787 p4p, 23595 weight class) and Ron Austin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Austin has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Paul Renter! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 6 - 12 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ron Austin! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Trevor Gratis and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Austin bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. As Renter backs off Austin throws a huge counter combo but Renter manages to avoid it all. Renter throws a series of punches but Austin avoids them all with ease. Renter tries to clinch up. Renter tries to clinch up. Austin throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Renter was covering up waiting for the punch and Austin finishes the takedown easily into guard. Renter manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Austin manages to get himself to full guard.
Austin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Renter doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Renter manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Renter is looking to stand up but Austin won't let him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Renter advances to half guard. Austin looking for submissions off his back. Austin looks winded! That's one minute gone in the round. Renter controlling the pace. Renter has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage. Renter has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Renter sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Austin avoids a series of strikes thrown by Renter.
Austin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Renter. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Renter sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Renter has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Renter continues to stall. Austin can't escape the position.
Austin is still trying to improve position. Renter content just to control the position here. Renter fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Austin can do anything to dispel that myth. Renter tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Austin is trying to reverse the position but instead Renter has taken his back - oops! Renter just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Renter wants it to stay on the feet. Renter is looking to clinch. Renter throws a half hearted mid kick. Austin has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Renter is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Renter wants to break free but Austin has control.

Austin shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. The fight stays on the outside here - Renter looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Austin throws a counter combo. Austin tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Renter defends well and Austin ends up having to push Renter into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Renter lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Austin circles away quickly and effectively. Renter throws the left hand but Austin avoids the punch easily. Renter misses with a body shot.

Austin takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Austin fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Renter sprawls well initially but Austin persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Renter moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Austin tries to free his leg and advance position but Renter is retaining full guard. Renter tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Austin forces his way into half guard. Austin is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Renter is just riding it out for now. Austin eventually gives up the hold. Austin is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Renter reverses the position - he's now on top in Austin's guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Renter advances to half guard. Renter is controlling the pace.
Renter wants to lay and pray for a moment but Austin keeps working.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Renter trying to pass the guard but Austin defending well. Renter stalling. Renter looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Austin is refusing to be controlled, as Renter sits in half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Renter perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Austin is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Renter pulls his head out easily. Austin looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Renter passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Austin! Austin is trying to escape the mount.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Renter trying to control but Austin is having none of it. Ron Austin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Paul Renter is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Renter wants to get back to his feet but Austin is holding on tight.
