This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 43 wins and 23 losses; Tyrano Jackson! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 21 wins and 10 losses; Shaka Zulu! The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Chris Edwards and Daniel Bishop.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Jackson fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Zulu to the ground. Jackson is now in Zulu's guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Jackson (2) vs (0) Zulu Zulu looking to control.
Zulu is adopting a defensive guard. Zulu is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Jackson is aware though and is defending well. Zulu pulls Jackson in close to his closed guard and prevents Jackson from doing any damage or advancing position. Zulu working for submissions but it's allowed Jackson to get to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Zulu has his hands clasped together around Jackson's back. He's all about the action. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jackson sitting and controlling from the half guard.

Jackson is pressing down on Zulu's thigh, looking to free his foot. Zulu is holding on for now. Zulu is trying to maintain the position but Jackson is very close to passing his half guard. Zulu is doing well to control the position and prevent Jackson from advancing to side control. Jackson has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Zulu tries to lock up and control but Jackson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Zulu keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Jackson wants to take Zulu's back here but Zulu is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.

Jackson tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Zulu sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Jackson content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Jackson wants to pass to mount but Zulu is defending the position. Zulu is trying to maintain the position but Jackson is very close to passing his half guard. Zulu might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Jackson haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Zulu is trying to get back to full guard.

Zulu looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Zulu is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Jackson trying to mount his opponent but Zulu defends it. Jackson controlling the pace.

Zulu tries to roll over but Jackson keeps him under control. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Jackson in particular looking to stall. Zulu wants to improve his position but Jackson is controlling well.

That's seven minutes gone in the round. Jackson's corner is telling him to maintain position. Zulu managing to control the position. Zulu is continuing to stall. Jackson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Zulu is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Jackson being controlled here momentarily. Zulu working for a triangle but Jackson defends it easily.
Jackson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Zulu has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jackson has managed to get both his arms back between Zulu's legs - danger averted.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Zulu controlling the position. Zulu isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Jackson stacks Zulu on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Jackson! Score +3 for passing guard: Jackson (8) vs (0) Zulu Jackson is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Zulu's shoulder. That is not cool. Zulu tries to buck Jackson off but Jackson is having none of it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Zulu prevents Jackson from improving position. Zulu tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Jackson wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Zulu wants to control but Jackson postures up. Zulu trying to remain calm as Jackson controls from the top position.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Zulu is trying to improve his position. Jackson working away. Jackson tries to advance to mount but can't. Jackson has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Zulu! Score +2 for reaching mount: Jackson (10) vs (0) Zulu Jackson takes Zulu's back. Score +3 for taking back: Jackson (13) vs (0) Zulu Zulu trying to control the position but Jackson manages to sink in the hooks. Zulu tries to escape the position.
Zulu has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it. Zulu's corner are yelling at him, telling him to just focus on controlling Jackson's hands. Jackson biding his time, looking for the opening.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Zulu just trying to survive but Jackson is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish. Jackson slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Jackson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Zulu for as long as he can get away with. You can see the frustration on Zulu's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Jackson is trying to stick to Zulu's back but Zulu is turning into Jackson. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Jackson's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Zulu. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Jackson (13) vs (2) Zulu Zulu postures up.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Jackson keeping moving, preventing Zulu from controlling successfully. Zulu content to stall in guard here. Zulu trying to control the position from guard on top but Jackson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Jackson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Zulu controls the pace. Jackson wants to sweep here but Zulu controlling him for the moment.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Jackson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Zulu seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Jackson controlling the position. Zulu stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jackson swivels though and keeps the full guard. Zulu's corner is telling him to maintain position.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Jackson can't keep his opponent in guard - Zulu advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Zulu looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Zulu trying to control the action but Jackson is working from the bottom. Zulu wants to free his trapped foot but Jackson is holding on for dear life with his legs. Zulu controlling the action here. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! It looks like Zulu might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
And that's the end of the fight! Jackson takes the fight on points by 13 to 2. A relieved looking Tyrano Jackson thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it. |
