PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alexei Brovarnik (ranked 1519 p4p, 1642 weight class) and Jack Falcon (ranked 213 p4p, 227 weight class). Falcon has chosen O RetrĂ´ Ativo - HerĂ³is do Status Quo as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Jack Falcon has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alexei Brovarnik!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jack Falcon!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Stewart Dunkirk and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Falcon moves out of range of the body kick from Brovarnik.
Brovarnik shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Falcon is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Falcon throws a push kick but Brovarnik slaps the foot to one side.
Falcon misses with the combination.
Brovarnik on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Falcon misses with a two punch combination.
Brovarnik fails in his attempt to clinch.
Brovarnik tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Falcon was well out of range. Poor timing from Brovarnik.

Falcon feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Brovarnik escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Falcon gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Brovarnik is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Falcon throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Brovarnik works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Brovarnik keeping moving, preventing Falcon from controlling successfully.
Brovarnik will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Falcon trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Falcon got a little sloppy there for a moment and Brovarnik has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Falcon has managed to get both his arms back between Brovarnik's legs - danger averted.

Brovarnik has his foot on Falcon's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Falcon works his way back into a safe position though.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Falcon scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Falcon trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Falcon slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Falcon postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Falcon must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Falcon distracts Brovarnik with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Brovarnik is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Falcon defends well.

Falcon slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Brovarnik is looking for a sweep.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Falcon creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Brovarnik tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Brovarnik regains half guard.
Falcon not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Falcon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Brovarnik keeps working.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Falcon is working for a kimura but Brovarnik is defending it quite comfortably.
Falcon wants to pass to mount but Brovarnik is defending the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Falcon dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Brovarnik counters with a leg kick.
Falcon throws out a loose jab but Brovarnik uses good head movement to avoid it.
Brovarnik tries to counter by clinching up but Falcon breaks away and moves out of range.
Left hook, right uppercut from Falcon.
Falcon tests Brovarnik's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Brovarnik is rocked!
Jack Falcon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Falcon decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Oh Brovarnik is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Brovarnik manages to get to full guard.

Brovarnik has an active guard here but Falcon has managed to pass into half guard.

Brovarnik looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Brovarnik seems to have got his legs back now.

Brovarnik is refusing to be controlled, as Falcon sits in half guard.
Falcon is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
