The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Ian Loll and Steve Smith.


The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way.

Smyth closes the distance and clinches.
Smyth fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Smyth has hold of one of Tail's legs. Tail is fighting the takedown attempt but Smyth gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Smyth wants to control from the top but Tail keeps moving.

Tail had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Smyth defends it easily.
Smyth postures up.
Smyth trying to control the position from guard on top but Tail is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tail is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Smyth wants to control from the top but Tail keeps moving.

Smyth has gone for a leg lock! Tail slips out almost immediately though and dives into Smyth's guard.

Tail works a leg free and moves into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tail is looking to take a break and control but Smyth is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Tail is working for a submission of some sort.
Tail wants to lay and pray for a moment but Smyth keeps working.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Tail is looking for a kimura but Smyth is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Tail to get the leverage.
Tail is taking a breather. Smyth says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Tail is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Smyth to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.
Tail wants to pass the guard but Smyth is keeping the position.

Smyth is looking for a triangle but Tail pushes his legs off easily.
Tail has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at The Italian Job. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Tail got a little sloppy there for a moment and Smyth has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Tail has managed to get both his arms back between Smyth's legs - danger averted.

Smyth is not content to let Tail control the position.

Tail is trying for a kimura here. Smyth looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Tail wins by kimura!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 5:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Snail Tail!
A very excited looking Snail Tail rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
