The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Chai fails in his attempt to clinch.

Chai closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Cahute has picked Chai up - he's going for a ride! Cahute dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Cahute is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Cahute is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Chai defends it well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cahute wants to improve his position but Chai is controlling well.

Cahute tries to roll over but Chai keeps him under control.
Chai uses his free foot to push down on Cahute's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Cahute.

Cahute tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Chai jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Cahute is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Cahute and Chai has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Chai happy to just control the position for now.

Chai tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Cahute felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Cahute tries to bench press Chai off him but Chai keeps the position.
Chai wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cahute keeps working.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Who's going to make the next move?

Chai thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Cahute is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Chai wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Cahute, who protects the arm well.
Chai trying to control the action but Cahute is working from the bottom.
Chai has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Cahute!

Cahute tries to hold on but Chai pushes him away.

Chai working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Cahute turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Chai off and cradles Cahute's limp body as Chai celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 5:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Leonardinho Chai!
