PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hans Peter Baxxter (ranked 1170 p4p, 1105 weight class) and Eric Draven (ranked 158 p4p, 148 weight class). Baxxter comes to the cage accompanied by Weekend, Scooter . Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 1, fighting out of London, Hans Peter Baxxter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 36 - 20 - 2, fighting out of Sydney, Eric Draven!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Frank Dennis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fighters circle momentarily. Baxxter darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Draven keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Baxxter.
And Draven tries to counter it with a takedown but Baxxter pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Baxxter fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Draven wants to clinch up but Baxxter keeps it at a distance.
Draven moves forwards but Baxxter connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Draven throws a nice inside leg kick.
A nice inside leg kick there by Baxxter. That's going to slow Draven down.
Baxxter missing with a left hand there. Draven was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Baxxter throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

We've been told by Baxxter's head coaches at Is It Avatary Enough? that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
A decent looking cross lands there for Draven.

Draven clinches up with Baxxter and pushes him back against the cage.
Baxxter lands a shot to the body.
Draven lands a shoulder strike.
Baxxter is pressed up against the cage. Draven has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Baxxter down to the mat. Baxxter avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Draven is looking to clinch but Baxxter is avoiding it.
Baxxter quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Draven tries to close the distance and clinch but Baxxter swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Baxxter misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Draven counters with a low kick, right behind Baxxter 's knee.
Draven drops his hands momentarily and Baxxter takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Draven tries to clinch there but Baxxter circles away.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Baxxter thumps Draven with a low kick.

Baxxter was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Baxxter misses with a looping right.
Baxxter ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Draven moves away.
Draven thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Baxxter if he has to take too many more of those.
Draven throws a left and a right that both miss
and Baxxter counters with a one-two to the body.
Draven closes the distance but Baxxter moves to the side
and Baxxter counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Draven moves to clinch but Baxxter breaks away
and Baxxter counters with a left to the body.
Draven throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Draven tries to clinch there but Baxxter circles away.

Draven moves into range and clinches up with Baxxter.
Baxxter blocks an elbow strike from Draven.
Draven fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Draven taking a break, stalling in the clinch.

Baxxter manages to break the clinch.
Baxxter thows a leg kick but Draven checks it
and Draven counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Baxxter lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Draven has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Draven and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Draven throws a combination. Baxxter tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Draven misses with a shot to the body
and Baxxter counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Draven tries to clinch up but Baxxter circles away and keeps his distance.
Baxxter fires out a quick counter leg kick but Draven just manages to avoid it.
Baxxter misses with a lunging right hand
and Draven counters with a left to the body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Baxxter connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Draven's hands.
Danga de danga de dang - Draven scores with a four punch combination!
Baxxter misses with a body shot.
Baxxter lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Eric Draven seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Draven is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Baxxter is aware though and is defending well.

That was a close second round but I would say that Hans Peter Baxxter will probably get the nod.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Baxxter, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
