Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Richard Mesquita (ranked 1561 p4p, 2348 weight class) and Gabriel Soares (ranked 206 p4p, 291 weight class). Richard Mesquita has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Richard Mesquita!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gabriel Soares!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Atkins and Paul Tew.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mesquita dives in for a single leg takedown but Soares sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Mesquita sets himself, and Soares steps forward looking for the clinch! Mesquita avoids it this time.
Soares ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Soares no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Mesquita is looking to work some ground and pound but Soares has wrist control.
Soares has his foot on Mesquita's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mesquita works his way back into a safe position though.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Mesquita's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Mesquita keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Soares's head.
Mesquita postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Soares is looking for a triangle but Mesquita pushes his legs off easily.
Mesquita has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Soares keeping moving, preventing Mesquita from controlling successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Soares is trying to keep Mesquita in close.
Mesquita working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Mesquita is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Soares can't keep his opponent in guard - Mesquita advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Mesquita lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Soares is rocked!
Mesquita looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Mesquita is working for a submission of some sort.
Soares is still in real trouble! Can Mesquita finish him?
Mesquita moves into full mount! Soares won't be happy about that!
Soares seems to have recovered his senses.
Mesquita scores with a couple of good head shots there.

Soares tries to hold on but Mesquita postures up.
Mesquita lands with some strikes.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mesquita avoids the attempt from Soares to control.
Mesquita cracks Soares with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
