Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rico Rodriguez (ranked 2462 p4p, 3076 weight class) and Gunner Bond (ranked 323 p4p, 401 weight class). Rodriguez comes to the cage accompanied by Latin Lingo. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rico Rodriguez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gunner Bond!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Alec Ball and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rodriguez looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Rodriguez is keen to just control but Bond is a slippery customer.

Rodriguez is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Bond defends it well.

Rodriguez is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Bond doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Rodriguez.
Rodriguez stalling away here and it's allowed Bond to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bond keeping moving, preventing Rodriguez from controlling successfully.
Rodriguez postures up in Bond's guard and throws a big left but Bond blocks it.
Rodriguez throws a big right hand that misses.
Bond pulls Rodriguez in close to his closed guard and prevents Rodriguez from doing any damage or advancing position.

Rodriguez thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Rodriguez is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Bond is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Bond has escaped and now he's on top!


Rodriguez looking for a guillotine here but Bond defends easily.

Rodriguez is looking for a triangle but Bond pushes his legs off easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rodriguez looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Bond prevents Rodriguez from getting back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Rodriguez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bond doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bond manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Rodriguez wants to get back to his feet but Bond is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Rodriguez is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Rodriguez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bond gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Bond really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rodriguez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Rodriguez has his foot on Bond's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bond works his way back into a safe position though.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Rodriguez working for a triangle but Bond defends it easily.

Rodriguez looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Rico Rodriguez dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Rodriguez misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Rodriguez on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Bond connects with a solid leg kick.
Bond lands a jab.
Rodriguez is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.
Bond leaves Rodriguez with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Bond scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Rico Rodriguez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bond feints and then cracks Rodriguez's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Rodriguez down.
Bond lands with a cross.
Rodriguez has his takedown stuffed
letting Bond counter with a right hand.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rico Rodriguez. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Bond connects with a nice looking jab.

and Bond counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Bond thumps Rodriguez with a low kick.
Bond scores with a leg kick.
Rodriguez takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Rodriguez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bond tries to avoid it but Rodriguez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bond to the ground. Bond escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Bond.
Rodriguez misses with a takedown
and Bond counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Gunner Bond is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Rodriguez doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Bond counters with a low kick, right behind Rodriguez 's knee.
A nice inside leg kick there by Bond. That's going to slow Rodriguez down.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rodriguez looks for a takedown but Bond sprawls well.

Bond feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Rodriguez sprawling to the canvas! Rodriguez rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Bond finish him?!

Rodriguez is rocked!

It looks like Rico Rodriguez has been cut.
Rico Rodriguez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Bond fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Rodriguez.
Oh Rodriguez is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Rodriguez walks into a straight right, dropping him to the canvas! Bond swarms him and finishes the fight with a hail of punches! What a brutal finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Gunner Bond!
Gunner Bond seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
