PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fezzik Montoya (ranked 2833 p4p, 4031 weight class) and Scoot Tatum (ranked 330 p4p, 443 weight class). Montoya comes to the cage accompanied by The Other thing. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Fezzik Montoya!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Scoot Tatum!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Jorge Garcia and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Montoya moves into the clinch successfully.
Tatum swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Montoya drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Tatum gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Tatum tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Montoya jumps guard and drags Tatum to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Tatum trying to control the position from guard on top but Montoya is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Montoya tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Montoya is controlling Tatum's posture.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Montoya lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Montoya drops back looking for a leg! Tatum is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Tatum manages to kick Montoya off! Montoya jumps back into Tatum's guard.
Tatum told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Montoya thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Montoya slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Montoya makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Tatum controls Montoya momentarily but Montoya frees himself.
Montoya is working Tatum over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Montoya connects with a couple of short punches.
Montoya has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Montoya thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Tatum wants to stand up but Montoya is controlling him.
Montoya wants to control from the top but Tatum keeps moving.
Montoya passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Montoya has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Montoya cracks Tatum with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Tatum can't do much from the bottom here.

Montoya is trying to get an arm triangle but Tatum is defending well.
Tatum wants to control but Montoya postures up.

Tatum is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Montoya scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Tatum to see if he's OK.

Montoya wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Tatum, who protects the arm well.

Montoya is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Tatum has escaped the position, nice work there.
Montoya remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Montoya working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Tatum is not content to let Montoya control the position.
Tatum wants to control but Montoya postures up.
Tatum tries to bench press Montoya off him but Montoya keeps the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Montoya scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Tatum to see if he's OK.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Fezzik Montoya dominated that round.
That's time! Montoya's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Montoya tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tatum swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Montoya looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Tatum!

Tatum sneaks out the side door and pushes Montoya away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Montoya wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Montoya closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Tatum quickly recovers to half guard.

Fezzik Montoya overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Montoya is looking for a kimura but Tatum is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Montoya to get the leverage.
Montoya wants to control but Tatum is keeping him busy.
Tatum really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Montoya. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Montoya is looking for a kimura but Tatum is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Montoya to get the leverage.
Tatum is looking to improve his position.

Tatum wants to get back to his feet.
Tatum has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Montoya is working away from the top position though.
Tatum might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Montoya haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Montoya connects with a nice short shot to Tatum's temple.
Tatum is looking for a sweep. Montoya is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Tatum wants to control but Montoya is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Montoya is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Tatum moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Montoya stops Tatum from standing up.

Montoya thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Montoya controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Montoya lands a couple of digs.
Montoya is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Montoya trying to control the position from guard on top but Tatum is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Montoya passes Tatum's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Montoya tries to pass to full mount but Tatum defends it.
Montoya works his foot free and advances to mount.
Tatum really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

A nice elbow there by Montoya.
Montoya looking to control but Tatum is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
You get the feeling that Tatum really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Tatum is desperately trying to improve his position but Montoya has a good base and remains in mount.
Montoya content just to control the position here.
Montoya postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Tatum badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Montoya around the waist but Montoya pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Montoya is the winner by TKO! Montoya jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:53 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Fezzik Montoya!
In his post fight interview, Fezzik Montoya started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
The defeated Scoot Tatum had this to say: 'I need to reassess my career plans. I keep losing and that's just not good.'.
