And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 24 wins and 27 losses; Pavel Savkov!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Dean Styles and Eddie Farnsworth.


The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

Savkov's coach down at Rivers Edge Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Savkov's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Bates drops down looking for an ankle pick but Savkov pulls his leg out and moves away.

Bates closes the distance and pushes Savkov back into the cage.

Bates wants the takedown. Savkov is fighting it off but Bates persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Savkov's guard against the cage.

Bates has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Savkov is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Bates.

Bates is looking to regain half guard here but Savkov keeps moving and retains side control.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
