This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 24 wins and 11 losses; Shaka Zulu! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 40 wins and 12 losses; Dragan Hozdic! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yukihiro Yamamoto.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Zulu looking to score a takedown here. Hozdic is defending well but Zulu drives through and ends up in Hozdic's guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Zulu (2) vs (0) Hozdic Hozdic has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Zulu can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Hozdic pulls Zulu in to control the position. Zulu looking to pass the guard. Hozdic can't keep his opponent in guard - Zulu advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Zulu with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Hozdic felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Hozdic tries to roll over but Zulu keeps him under control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Zulu works his foot free and advances to mount. Score +3 for passing guard: Zulu (5) vs (0) Hozdic Hozdic manages to regain half guard. Good work. Zulu perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Hozdic looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Hozdic looking for a sweep. Not yet Hozdic, not yet. Zulu is pushing down on Hozdic's leg trying to pass to half guard. Hozdic is fighting to maintain full guard but Zulu has managed to sneak the leg through.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hozdic won't allow Zulu to pass to mount. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hozdic is refusing to be controlled, as Zulu sits in half guard. Hozdic gets full guard. Hozdic bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Zulu's guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Zulu (5) vs (2) Hozdic Hozdic preventing the sweep. Hozdic controls from within his opponent's guard.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Zulu pulls Hozdic in close to prevent any damage. Zulu has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

That's seven minutes gone in the round. Zulu looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Zulu wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Hozdic is now in half guard. Zulu is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Zulu is concentrating on defense, preventing Hozdic from advancing position. Zulu is looking for a sweep. Hozdic is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Zulu is looking to control Hozdic's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Zulu avoid being mounted?

That's ten minutes gone in the round. Zulu desperately trying to maintain half guard. Well, if Hozdic is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Hozdic is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard. Zulu looking for a sweep. Not yet Zulu, not yet. Hozdic is stalling in the full guard. Zulu trying to control the position here.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Hozdic showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Zulu is trying to keep Hozdic in close.

That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Zulu manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hozdic manages to get himself to full guard.

That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Zulu trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Zulu sitting in guard, not really doing much. Hozdic seems keen to control Zulu's posture.
And that's the end of the fight! Zulu takes the fight on points by 7 to 2. Shaka Zulu retains his heavyweight title! An out of breath Shaka Zulu thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
