Verus fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Cruz fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Verus avoids it really well and circles away.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Verus has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

We've been hearing good reports from Cruz's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Cruz has hold of Verus's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Verus seems comfortable defending it but Cruz has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Verus is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Verus is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Cruz couldn't care less - he's delighted!
