Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lasha Abashidze (ranked 727 p4p, 963 weight class) and Roman Emelianenko (ranked 105 p4p, 139 weight class). Emelianenko comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Mala Dama - Kabat kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lasha Abashidze! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Roman Emelianenko! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, William Peck and Gregory Folan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Abashidze shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Emelianenko sprawls well. Emelianenko wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Abashidze gets slowly back to his feet. Emelianenko was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind. The fighters circling - Emelianenko throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Abashidze tries to counter with a takedown but Emelianenko is quick to defend against it. Abashidze lands with a right hand.
It looks like Roman Emelianenko has been cut. Abashidze throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Emelianenko's waist but Emelianenko gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Abashidze off to one side. A jab from Abashidze misses. Abashidze misses with a hook. Emelianenko ducked under it nicely. A jab lands there for Abashidze. Abashidze misses with a body punch
and Emelianenko counters with a thumping low kick. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Horrible takedown attempt by Abashidze or perhaps it was just good defense by Emelianenko, which made it look bad. A little jabbing left from Emelianenko on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lasha Abashidze. That's going to take a lot out of him. Emelianenko takes a body punch but keeps moving. Abashidze dips to his left and cracks Emelianenko with an uppercut!
That's one minute gone in the round. Emelianenko throws a body shot but no joy. Emelianenko fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Abashidze. Emelianenko misses with a low kick as Abashidze jumps back. Emelianenko throws a body punch but Abashidze moves out of range. Roman Emelianenko is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Abashidze fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Emelianenko on the side of the head. Emelianenko lands a nice shot to the body.
A shot to the body from Abashidze misses and Emelianenko counters with a straight right hand. Abashidze misses with a straight right. Abashidze shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Abashidze is taking a breather. Emelianenko says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Emelianenko is trying to stand back up but Abashidze is controlling him
That's two minutes gone in the round. Abashidze wants to take a breather but Emelianenko is having none of it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Emelianenko wants to improve his position but Abashidze is controlling well.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Abashidze thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Emelianenko's head. Ground and pound from Abashidze. Abashidze sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Emelianenko defending well though. Abashidze wants to free his trapped foot but Emelianenko is holding on for dear life with his legs. Emelianenko is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Abashidze jumps into side control! Emelianenko is looking for a sweep. An elbow from Abashidze crashes against the mat.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Abashidze throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Abashidze wants to lay and pray for a moment but Emelianenko keeps working. Emelianenko takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Abashidze lands an elbow. Abashidze creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. Abashidze throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Abashidze is looking to take a break and control but Emelianenko is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Abashidze creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. That's four minutes gone in the round. The referee asks Abashidze politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Abashidze prefers to stall for the moment though. Abashidze working the ground and pound but Emelianenko is defending the strikes. Emelianenko really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Abashidze. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Abashidze misses with the ground and pound. You can see the frustration on Emelianenko's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Abashidze fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Emelianenko tries to bench press Abashidze off him but Abashidze keeps the position. Emelianenko defending against the ground and pound. Emelianenko takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
That has opened up Roman Emelianenko's cut even more. Abashidze trying to control the position but Emelianenko is working away. Emelianenko tries to get back to half guard but can't. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Lasha Abashidze dominated that round. The cut man is working on Roman Emelianenko's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. Emelianenko throws a leg kick but Abashidze moved away. Abashidze throws a poor cross that misses
and Emelianenko counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Emelianenko lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Abashidze circles away quickly and effectively. Emelianenko misses the shot to the body. Emelianenko has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Emelianenko there as he acknowledges the shot.
The cut above Roman Emelianenko's eye is starting to cause him problems now. Abashidze uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Emelianenko has time to react. A jab from Abashidze misses. Abashidze misses with a lunging right hand
and Emelianenko counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Abashidze lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Emelianenko backs up against the cage.
Abashidze looks to throw the jab but Emelianenko is out of range. Abashidze misses with the combination.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. A jab lands there for Emelianenko.
That's one minute gone in the round. Emelianenko takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Lasha Abashidze is winning the standup battle so far. Abashidze swings widly with a right hand
and Emelianenko counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Emelianenko misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Abashidze lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Roman Emelianenko's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters. Abashidze misses with a right hand and Emelianenko counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Nice defenses there by Emelianenko. Lasha Abashidze seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Abashidze misses with a lunging right hand
and Emelianenko counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Abashidze shoots for a double leg takedown but Emelianenko sprawls well. He's pushed Abashidze's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Abashidze doesn't succeed with the takedown and Abashidze takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Abashidze is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Abashidze throws a lazy uppercut
and Emelianenko counters with a straight right hand. Emelianenko looks to throw the jab but Abashidze is out of range. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Abashidze shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Emelianenko has one foot on Abashidze's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Emelianenko has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Emelianenko showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Abashidze.
Emelianenko tries a quick counter leg kick but Abashidze is wise to it. Abashidze lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Roman Emelianenko's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:42 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Lasha Abashidze!
