CWC 324 - Zulu vs Camara PBP Commentary |
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 25 wins and 11 losses; Shaka Zulu! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 22 wins and 11 losses; Abubakar Camara! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Alexandre Firmino and Daniel Cesar.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Zulu leaves Camara with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Camara is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Zulu's half guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Zulu (0) vs (2) Camara Camara prevents Zulu from improving his position. Camara is looking to take a break and control but Zulu is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Zulu is trying to get back to full guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Camara trying to pass the guard but Zulu defending well. Camara not doing much here.
Zulu is looking to control Camara's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Zulu avoid being mounted? Camara wants to pass to mount but Zulu is defending the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Camara seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Zulu does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Zulu is trying is best to control the position here. Camara with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Zulu tries to roll over but Camara keeps him under control. Camara tries to pass to full mount but Zulu defends it. Zulu moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Zulu pulls Camara in close to prevent any damage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Camara is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Camara wants to pass the guard but Zulu is keeping the position. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Zulu pulls Camara in close to prevent any damage.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Camara trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Zulu seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Zulu wants to hit a sweep here but Camara passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Zulu there! That's six minutes gone in the round. Zulu tries to hold on but Camara postures up. Camara takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Zulu is trying to escape the mount.
Camara tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Camara's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Zulu is trying desperately to improve position.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Zulu tries to hold on but Camara pushes him away. Camara controlling the pace for now. Let's hope that Camara has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Zulu is squirming around, avoiding Camara's attempts to control the action.

That's ten minutes gone in the round. Zulu tries to lock up and control but Camara gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Zulu is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Zulu is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Camara can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Zulu is looking to escape. Camara content just to control the position here. Zulu wants to hold on but Camara pushes him away.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Zulu sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Zulu is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at SSJ Gym, so we'll see if he gets out of it. Camara tries to pass the half guard into mount. Zulu knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Zulu is staying active underneath Camara, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Camara is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Zulu is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Camara pulls his head out easily. Zulu is concentrating on defense, preventing Camara from advancing position. Zulu is looking for a sweep. Camara is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Zulu keeping hold of Camara's head, controlling as best he can. Camara perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Zulu is not content to let Camara control the position.
