PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Stephen Connor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ronald Frederman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Connor has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Stephen Connor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ronald Frederman!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Connor throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Connor takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Nice takedown defense from Frederman. No joy for Connor on that attempt.
Connor takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Connor is breathing heavily.
Frederman stalks Connor and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Connor's face. Connor staggers backwards, shaken.
Frederman looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Frederman lands with a right hand.
No joy there for Frederman, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Connor changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Frederman tries to avoid it but Connor manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Frederman to the ground. Frederman escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Frederman thows a body shot but no joy.
Frederman will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Frederman throws a right and a left that both miss.
Some wild striking there from Frederman.

Frederman shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Frederman stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Frederman fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Connor on the side of the head.
Jab by Frederman.
Frederman throws and low kick but Connor moves out of range easily.
Frederman throws a lazy head kick

and Connor counters with a nice double leg into side control. Frederman won't be happy with that.
Frederman is trying to improve his position.
Frederman is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Connor working away.

Frederman manages to work his way to half guard, despite Connor's best efforts.
Frederman is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Connor prevents Frederman from standing back up.

Connor is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Frederman has managed to free his arm - good work.

Connor is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Frederman defends it well.

Connor is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Connor prevents Frederman from improving his position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Connor wants to free his trapped foot but Frederman is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Frederman has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Connor is working away from the top position though.
Frederman misses with some strikes from the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Frederman looks to throw the jab but Connor is out of range.
Frederman moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ronald Frederman dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Connor with a lazy takedown attempt

and Frederman decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Connor's guard.
Frederman is looking to work some ground and pound but Connor has wrist control.
Frederman content to stall in guard here.
Connor working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Frederman.
Frederman slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Let's hope that Frederman has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Connor escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Frederman gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Connor is looking for a triangle here but Frederman uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Connor is trying to work for a sweep but Frederman has mounted him!
Frederman takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Connor keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Connor is bucking up trying to escape but Frederman cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Frederman tries to control but Connor wriggling away.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Frederman in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

Connor slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Connor works his way to full guard. Good work.
Frederman's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Frederman trying to control but Connor is working from the bottom.

Connor isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Frederman stacks Connor on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Frederman!
Connor is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are battling for position here. Connor manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Frederman throwing strikes from guard but Connor blocks nicely.
Connor lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Frederman!

Connor goes for an armbar but Frederman turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Frederman.
Frederman forces his way into half guard.
Frederman takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Frederman is taking a breather. Connor says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Connor tries to roll over but Frederman keeps him under control.
Connor works his way to full guard. Good work.

Connor had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Frederman is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Connor Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Frederman's back instead.

Connor working for a choke but Frederman is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ronald Frederman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Frederman lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Ronald Frederman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Connor misses with a takedown
and Frederman counters with a nice low kick that buckles Connor's knee momentarily.
Connor tries for a takedown but Frederman circles away easily
and Frederman counters with a left and a right that stings Connor.
Frederman misses with an attempted mid kick.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

and Connor counters with a takedown into side control.
Connor tries to advance to mount but can't.

Connor is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Frederman knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Connor is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Frederman is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Frederman can't do much from the bottom here.

Connor wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Frederman, who protects the arm well.

Frederman is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Connor is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Frederman knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
