PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Shield (ranked 4246 p4p, 24208 weight class) and Agbay Amiga (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Agbay Amiga was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Shield!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Agbay Amiga!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Chris Downing and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shield moves into range and clinches up with Amiga.
Shield wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Shield is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Shield tightens his grip and picks Amiga up, before dumping him to the ground. Amiga manages to land in guard.
Amiga managing to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Amiga is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Amiga keeping full guard, as Shield tries to pass.
Shield trying to control but Amiga is working from the bottom.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Shield throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Shield moves into range and clinches up with Amiga.
Shield looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Amiga prevents a takedown attempt there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Shield tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Shield misses with an elbow strike.
Shield tries to break free but Amiga pushes him back against the cage.
Shield wants a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Shield. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Amiga is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Shield is defending well.

Amiga breaks from the clinch.
Shield shoots in and drives through. Amiga sprawls well.
Shield is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shield shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Amiga defends it nicely.
Shield fails with an attempt to clinch.
Amiga counters with a body kick.
Amiga lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
No luck for Shield with that takedown attempt.

Amiga drives through with a takedown into Shield's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Amiga is standing up over Shield. Shield looks to escape but Amiga dives into side control.

Amiga lands a few punches from side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Shield wants to control but Amiga postures up.
Shield tries to bench press Amiga off him but Amiga keeps the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shield tries to strike but it doesn't land.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Amiga decides to stand back up.
James Shield seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Amiga fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Shield sprawls well initially but Amiga persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Shield tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Amiga manages to move to mount!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Agbay Amiga dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Amiga is defended easily by Shield.
Shield attempts a counter takedown but Amiga avoids it well and moves away.
James Shield is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Shield scores with a jab to the body.

Shield takes the fight into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The referee calls for Shield to work.
Amiga tries to score a body lock takedown but Shield shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Shield has had enough of the clinch but Amiga keeps him there for the moment.

Shield lands a takedown into guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Amiga working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Shield doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Amiga is tightening it up a little... Shield has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Shield reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Shield taps out! Nice BJJ there by Amiga!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Agbay Amiga!
