PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marcos Ruaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Elidio Munhoz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ruaz comes to the cage accompanied by My Unborn - Tupac. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcos Ruaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Elidio Munhoz!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Matheus Silva and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruaz fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Munhoz with a lazy takedown attempt
and Ruaz counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Munhoz is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Ruaz shoots and misses

and Munhoz counters with a takedown into side control.

Munhoz tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Munhoz is trying to get an arm triangle but Ruaz is defending well.
Munhoz prevents Ruaz from escaping the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Munhoz tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Munhoz has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Ruaz manages to work his way to half guard, despite Munhoz's best efforts.

Ruaz bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Munhoz's guard.

Munhoz has momentary wrist control but Ruaz slips an elbow through the middle.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Ruaz drops back looking for a leg! Munhoz is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Munhoz manages to kick Ruaz off! Ruaz jumps back into Munhoz's guard.

Munhoz has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ruaz can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

and Munhoz counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

That was a close round but I would say that Marcos Ruaz will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Munhoz shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Ruaz's guard.

Munhoz thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Ruaz throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

A close second round but Elidio Munhoz will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Ruaz stuffs the takedown attempt from Munhoz. Munhoz gets slowly back to his feet.
Ruaz lands with a kick to the temple. Munhoz shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Ruaz escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Munhoz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Ruaz is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Ruaz looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Munhoz with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Munhoz is going olschool here, as he tries to force Ruaz to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Ruaz shrugs it off.

Munhoz looking to ground and pound but Ruaz is blocking nicely.
Ruaz is looking to improve his position but Munhoz isn't that keen on the idea.

Munhoz is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Ruaz is surviving well by controlling Munhoz's body position as best he can.

Munhoz has hold of Ruaz's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Ruaz manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Munhoz blocks Ruaz's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

Elidio Munhoz comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Munhoz has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
