PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yawa Kiang (ranked 24797 p4p, 24723 weight class) and Walay Buut (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yawa Kiang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Walay Buut!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Frank Dennis and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Buut misses with the body kick
and Kiang makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Kiang gets the takedown into side control.
Buut struggling a bit here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Both fighters take a look at the clock.
Kiang controls the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Buut is trying to control Kiang's posture but Kiang avoids it.
Kiang controls the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Buut tries to land a front kick but Kiang steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Buut shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Buut wants to control but Kiang is keeping him busy.
Kiang is positioning himself well to prevent Buut advancing to mount.
Buut is figuring out what he wants to do next.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kiang is controlling Buut's position as best he can from this difficult position.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Kiang is looking to control Buut's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kiang avoid being mounted?

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Kiang drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Buut avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Kiang's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Buut has control of Kiang's left arm, preventing Kiang from doing any damage.
Buut wants to sweep but no luck.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Yawa Kiang dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Kiang manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Buut on his heels. He'll look to pass Buut's guard now, I'm sure.
Buut seems keen to control Kiang's posture.
Buut utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Buut looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kiang content to stall in guard here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Buut has his hands on Kiang's head, controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kiang looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Buut seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Buut shoots in looking for a takedown but Kiang manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Buut's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Kiang throws a big counter combination but Buut scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Buut closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Kiang struggling a bit here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kiang tries to improve position but can't.
Kiang holds on to Buut's head and controls the position momentarily.
Kiang sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Kiang is trying to get back to full guard.
Buut tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kiang knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Buut keeps trying to improve his position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Buut tries to land a body kick
and Kiang counters with an outside leg kick.
Kiang changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Buut tries to avoid it but Kiang manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Buut to the ground. Buut escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Buut is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Buut shoots in and drives through. Kiang sprawls well.
And Kiang counters with a quick kick to the body but Buut blocks it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Buut.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Yawa Kiang dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Kiang scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Buut explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kiang is concentrating on defense, preventing Buut from advancing position.

Kiang is trying to get back to full guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Kiang controlling the position well.

Buut pushes Kiang off and gets back to his feet.

Buut tries to land a front kick but Kiang steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Buut shoots in for a takedown but Kiang shows good takedown defense.

Kiang dives in and scores a takedown into Buut's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Buut trying to keep a closed guard but Kiang is proving a slippery customer.
Buut might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Kiang haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Walay Buut has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Yawa Kiang is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Buut is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Buut is trying to keep Kiang in close.

Walay Buut comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kiang has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
