Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jayson Howard (ranked 24740 p4p, 24959 weight class) and Andy Liu (ranked 626 p4p, 618 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Liu dives in and grabs Howard's left leg, looking for a takedown. Howard pushes down on Liu's head and hops out.

Howard has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Liu really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Howard. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Howard creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Liu sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Liu's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Howard is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Liu to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Liu shrugs it off.

A big strike lands for Howard! That's really hurt Liu and he's turned his back - Howard keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Howard jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!
