PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Batang Kock (ranked 1477 p4p, 1589 weight class) and Brooke Marsden (ranked 82 p4p, 89 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Kock might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to I will axe kick you, and I am not careful.. Marsden has chosen Lunatic Fringe as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Batang Kock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brooke Marsden!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Summer Carpenter and Darius Henderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Marsden.
Marsden happy to just control the position for now.
Kock is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Marsden trying to control the position but Kock is working away.
Kock is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at IMMA Gym of Elite ASS, so we'll see if he gets out of it.
Marsden just content to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Marsden wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kock keeps working.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Marsden advances to mount.
Kock is looking to improve his position but Marsden isn't that keen on the idea.

Marsden fails to advance to Kock's back.
Marsden throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Kock is in all sorts of trouble here.
Kock stops Marsden from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
Kock keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Kock is working hard here to advance position.
Kock is squirming around, avoiding Marsden's attempts to control the action.
Kock wants to control but Marsden is having none of it.

Marsden goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Kock turns into him and now he's in Marsden's guard.

Kock is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Marsden looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Brooke Marsden dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Marsden thuds his right hand into Kock's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Marsden has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kock wants to land a leg kick but Marsden is out of range.
A jab lands there for Marsden.
Brooke Marsden seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kock throws a poor cross that misses
and Marsden counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Marsden missing with a left hand there. Kock was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Kock displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Marsden throws out the jab.

Marsden darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Kock is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Marsden is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Kock sees it coming and defends easily.
Kock is trying to maintain the position but Marsden is very close to passing his half guard.

Marsden is looking to take a break and control but Kock is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Kock keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Kock can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Marsden controls the pace.
Marsden stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kock swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Brooke Marsden has got the better of the ground game so far.
Marsden wants to control from the top but Kock keeps moving.
Kock is pulling down on Marsden's head. It's preventing any offense from Marsden, at least for the moment.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Marsden looking to sit in guard and control but Kock gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Marsden not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Kock content to stall in guard here.
Marsden controls Kock momentarily but Kock frees himself.
Kock postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Kock is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Marsden is looking to sweep but instead, Kock has passed into half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
You can see the frustration on Marsden's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Marsden wants to control but Kock postures up.
Kock controls the position.

A close second round but Brooke Marsden will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Marsden moves into the clinch successfully.

Marsden escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Kock.
Marsden throws out a loose jab but Kock uses good head movement to avoid it.
Kock swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Kock uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Marsden.
Marsden throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Kock counters with a nice uppercut.
A big right from Marsden misses.
Marsden connects with a looping right hand.
Marsden swings widly with a right hand
and Kock makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Kock looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Marsden throws a hook but Kock blocks it.
Marsden throws a jab when Kock was well out of range.

and Kock counters with an inside leg kick.

Kock takes a swing at Marsden's ribcage but misses.
Marsden tries to land a front kick but Kock steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Marsden throws a lazy uppercut
and Kock counters with a straight right hand.
Kock blocks a jab.
Nice defenses there by Marsden.
Marsden is looking to land body kicks.
Marsden looks to land a left hand but Kock moved out of range nicely.

and Kock finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.

Marsden uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Kock has time to react.
A looping hook to the body misses from Marsden. Kock does a little dance to reset his feet.
Kock was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Marsden just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromKock.
Kock lands with a nice body punch.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Kock is looking to wear down Marsden with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Kock throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Marsden.
A solid leg kick lands there for Marsden.
Kock moves out of range of the strikes.
It looked like Kock was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Marsden throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Kock with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Marsden to score with a decent uppercut.
Kock tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Marsden was well out of range. Poor timing from Kock.
Kock takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Kock swings for the body but Marsden moves out of range.
Kock bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Kock went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Brooke Marsden is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Marsden cracks Kock with a good jab.

Brooke Marsden comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Marsden has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
