PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Phol Hunter (ranked 2611 p4p, 2765 weight class) and Bastien Harris (ranked 352 p4p, 373 weight class). Bastien Harris told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hunter throws a hook but Harris blocks it.
Hunter throws a hook to the side of Harris's head but Harris sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Hunter throws a body punch but Harris moves out of range.
Harris drops his hands momentarily and Hunter takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Hunter jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Hunter misses the shot to the body.
Hunter moves away from the strike by Harris.
Harris throws a looping overhand right but Hunter ducks down to avoid it.

Harris uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Hunter.

and Hunter counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Harris's coach down at Average Judas Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Harris's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Hunter lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Hunter swings for the body but Harris moves out of range.
Harris ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hunter moves away.
Hunter connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Harris's hands.

and Harris connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hunter bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Harris throws an overhand right that lands on Hunter's shoulder, as Hunter tries to avoid the shot.

Harris takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Harris jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

Phol Hunter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hunter fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Harris manages to avoid it.
Harris moves out of range as Hunter strikes.
Harris walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Harris lands with a hook. Hunter tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Harris throws out a counter right but Hunter avoids it with no problem.
Hunter ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Hunter cracks Harris with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Hunter takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

and Harris counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Harris moves into range and connects with a jab.

Hunter tries to throw a body punch but Harris avoids it by throwing Hunter back against the cage.

Hunter lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Harris throws a head punch that misses.
Harris prevents a body shot from Hunter.
Harris tries to work over Hunter's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Hunter goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Hunter digs a right hand into Harris's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Harris's gas tank.
Hunter is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Hunter swings wildly with an uppercut but Harris uses good head movement to avoid it.

The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Hunter misses with a hook to the ribs.
Hunter takes a shot to the head.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Hunter takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Hunter lands a nice shot to the body.

Hunter has a couple of punches blocked by Harris.
Harris blocks a punch to the side of the head.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Phol Hunter will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Harris has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Hunter moves forwards but Harris connects with a nice, crisp jab.

and Harris counters with a stiff right hand.
Hunter has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.

Harris bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Hunter's head backwards.

Harris connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Oh Hunter is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Harris throws a shot from downtown. Hunter moves away and avoids it.

and Harris counters with a right hand from hell and Hunter is out cold! A vicious knockout!
