PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jacob Hawes (ranked 4332 p4p, 4235 weight class) and Slate Push (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hawes has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 1, fighting out of New York, Jacob Hawes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Slate Push!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Franklyn Lucas and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Push tries to close the distance and clinch but Hawes swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Push shoots for a double leg takedown but Hawes sprawls well. He's pushed Push's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Hawes.
Hawes changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Push tries to avoid it but Hawes manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Push to the ground. Push escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Hawes is breathing heavily.
Push displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hawes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jacob Hawes. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Push shoots in but Hawes avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Push pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Push is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hawes is controlling him.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Push jumps guard and drags Hawes to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Push tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Push throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Push bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hawes's guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Push accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Push tries to free his leg and advance position but Hawes is retaining full guard.
Push in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Push throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Hawes tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Push is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Push gets to his feet - Hawes follows without any prompting.
Some wild striking there from Push.

Hawes gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Push to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Push stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Push fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Push drives through and clinches with Hawes against the cage.
Hawes goes for a takedown in the clinch but Push prevents it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Push has Hawes pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Hawes manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Hawes shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Push pinned against the cage. Push gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Push misses with a takedown attempt - Hawes sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Slate Push comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
