PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Neto Soares (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and el Paragua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Neto Soares!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, el Paragua!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Daniel Cesar and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Soares shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Soares was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Soares trying to control but Paragua is having none of it.
Paragua is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Paragua gets back to half guard.
Paragua trying to hold on to Soares's head to control him but Soares postures up.
Soares throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Paragua flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Paragua is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Soares jumps into side control!
You can see the frustration on Paragua's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Soares wants to stand but Paragua is controlling his arm.
Paragua is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Soares asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Soares misses with a takedown attempt - Paragua sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Paragua closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Paragua performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Paragua thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Paragua wants to stand up but Soares has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Paragua looks gassed!
Soares has hold of Paragua's hands but Paragua slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Soares is trying to stand.
Paragua seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Soares does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Paragua not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Paragua in particular looking to stall.

Paragua looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

el Paragua dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Soares with a poor takedown

and Paragua counters with a single leg into guard. Soares didn't expect that.
Paragua works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Paragua should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Paragua throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Paragua is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Paragua seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Soares does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Soares pushes Paragua off and gets back to his feet.
Paragua has his takedown stuffed

and Soares counters with a nice double leg into side control. Paragua won't be happy with that.

Soares is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Paragua has escaped the position, nice work there.
Soares working away.

Paragua dodges the ground and pound from Soares.
Paragua tries to control but Soares manages to take his back.

Soares is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Paragua up.
Paragua is really stuck here.
Paragua trying to control but not successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Paragua turns into Soares and is now in his guard.
Paragua is looking to stand up but Soares won't let him.
Paragua lands a couple of digs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Neto Soares will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Paragua darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Paragua is looking to advance position but Soares won't allow it.
Paragua is looking to take a break and control but Soares is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Paragua wants to free his trapped foot but Soares is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Soares is looking for a sweep. Paragua is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Paragua is trying to control. Soares wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Paragua lands a nice short elbow.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Paragua trying to control from half guard but Soares is working away.
Paragua throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Soares misses with a takedown

so Paragua counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Paragua won't allow Soares to sweep him here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Paragua missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Paragua in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
el Paragua has got the better of the ground game so far.
Paragua is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Soares will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Paragua is stalling in the full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Paragua with a flurry of punches that miss.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Paragua is stalling in the full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
el Paragua comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Paragua has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
