Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 24 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bjorg Fjordlinginsson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 4 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hideki Suzuki! The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Arvi Lind and Johanna Lukiainen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice takedown defense from Fjordlinginsson. No joy for Suzuki on that attempt. Fjordlinginsson misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Fjordlinginsson shoots in and bounces Suzuki off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Fjordlinginsson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Fjordlinginsson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Suzuki has his foot on Fjordlinginsson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Fjordlinginsson works his way back into a safe position though. Fjordlinginsson drops back looking for a leg! Suzuki is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Suzuki manages to kick Fjordlinginsson off! Fjordlinginsson jumps back into Suzuki's guard. Suzuki wants to sweep here but Fjordlinginsson controlling him for the moment. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Fjordlinginsson drops back looking for a leg! Suzuki is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Suzuki manages to kick Fjordlinginsson off! Fjordlinginsson jumps back into Suzuki's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fjordlinginsson postures up in Suzuki's guard and throws a big left but Suzuki blocks it. Fjordlinginsson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Fjordlinginsson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Fjordlinginsson stands and throws Suzuki's legs to the side, diving into side control. Fjordlinginsson wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Suzuki, who protects the arm well. Fjordlinginsson has hold of Suzuki's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Suzuki tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Fjordlinginsson cranks the arm and Suzuki screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Suzuki, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Bjorg Fjordlinginsson! In defeat, Hideki Suzuki stepped up to the mic, saying 'It is what it is'.
