Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Rodriguez tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Smyth swivels and escapes. Smyth shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Rodriguez manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Smyth (2) vs (0) Rodriguez Rodriguez keeping moving, preventing Smyth from controlling successfully. Rodriguez is trying to keep Smyth in close.
Smyth thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Smyth showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Rodriguez is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Rodriguez drops back, looking for a kneebar! Smyth looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Smyth looks to have wriggled free... Rodriguez tries to hold on but Smyth pushes him away. Rodriguez is trying to escape the mount.
Rodriguez keeps trying to improve his position. Rodriguez defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Smyth.

Rodriguez looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Smyth works his foot free and advances to mount.
