PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Higanti Libat (ranked 24108 p4p, 24518 weight class) and Wala Sapi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wala Sapi has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Higanti Libat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, George Francis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Libat throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Sapi was covering up waiting for the punch and Libat finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Libat scoring with some ground and pound.
Libat controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Libat advances to half guard.
Sapi is controlling Libat's trapped leg to prevent Libat from advancing to side control.
Sapi wants to control but Libat is keeping busy.
Libat with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Libat landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Libat is taking a breather. Sapi says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Libat looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Sapi replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Libat blocks it well.
Libat tries for a takedown but Sapi sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Libat closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Sapi to the mat! Sapi manages to get full guard.
Sapi is controlling Libat's posture.
Libat sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Sapi has Libat pulled in close to control his posture.

Let's hope that Sapi has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sapi working a defensive guard here.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Libat will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
And Sapi responds with a good body kick, but Libat manages to step out the way in time.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Higanti Libat dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Libat moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Libat changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sapi tries to avoid it but Libat manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sapi to the ground. Sapi escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
A nice side step and Sapi releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Libat attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.

Sapi closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Libat did well to prevent Sapi getting side control.

Higanti Libat overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Sapi looking to score a takedown here. Libat is defending well but Sapi drives through and ends up in Libat's guard.

Libat has his feet on Sapi's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Sapi shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Libat jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.

Sapi shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Libat napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Sapi wants to control but Libat is keeping him busy.
You can see the frustration on Libat's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

A close second round but Wala Sapi will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

and Sapi counters with a stiff right hand.

Sapi shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Libat manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Libat is pulling down on Sapi's head to control his posture.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Sapi throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Libat works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Libat can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sapi controls the pace.
Libat is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

It appears Libat was looking to counter with a kick there.

Libat is trying is best to control the position here.

Sapi throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Well, if Sapi is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Sapi in particular looking to stall.

Wala Sapi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sapi has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
