PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yawa Kiang (ranked 24701 p4p, 24572 weight class) and Way Nada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yawa Kiang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Way Nada!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Robert Twigg and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Nada shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Nada was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kiang can't do much from the bottom here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nada moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kiang is not content to let Nada control the position.
Kiang wants to control but Nada postures up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Kiang drives through with a takedown into guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kiang looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Nada pulls Kiang in close to his closed guard and prevents Kiang from doing any damage or advancing position.

Nada has his hands on Kiang's head, controlling the position.
Kiang is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Nada shoots for a double leg takedown but Kiang sprawls well. He's pushed Nada's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Kiang throws a quick counter kick to the body but Nada avoids it.
Nada fails with a takedown attempt.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Nada closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Kiang's guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Way Nada dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Kiang can't do much from the bottom here.
Nada trying to control the action but Kiang is working from the bottom.

Kiang is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kiang throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Kiang dives in for a single leg takedown but Nada sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Nada steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.
Nada wants a takedown but no success here.
Kiang is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Nada gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Kiang gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Nada keeps control of the position for the meantime.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Nada is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Kiang pulls his head out easily.
Nada trying to control but Kiang postures up.
Kiang seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Nada has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kiang is working away from the top position though.
Kiang is looking to stall here but Nada recovers full guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Way Nada showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Kiang shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Nada but Nada pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Nada follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
Nada has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Nada fails with a takedown attempt.
Kiang is looking to counter with a body kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kiang shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Nada counters with an inside leg kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Horrible takedown attempt by Nada or perhaps it was just good defense by Kiang, which made it look bad.
Kiang appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Kiang feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Kiang preventing the sweep.
Nada pulls Kiang in close to prevent any damage.
Way Nada has got the better of the ground game so far.
Nada tries to land a sweep but no joy.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Kiang wants to control from the top but Nada keeps moving.

Kiang is stalling in the full guard.
Nada has Kiang pulled in close to control his posture.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Kiang closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Nada did well to prevent Kiang getting side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kiang seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Nada does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Yawa Kiang has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Way Nada is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Kiang perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Nada has his hands clasped together around Kiang's back. He's all about the action.

And that's the end of the fight!
Yawa Kiang showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Nada has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
