PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Aljamain Sterling (ranked 1552 p4p, 1816 weight class) and Scottie Lamez (ranked 91 p4p, 102 weight class). Sterling comes to the cage accompanied by I Love. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Aljamain Sterling!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Scottie Lamez!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Chris Edwards and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lamez misses with an uppercut. Sterling saw that one coming.
Sterling has been working on his boxing with his coaches at The Jungle Room in the buildup to the fight.
Lamez throws a jab but it's blocked by Sterling.
Lamez looks to throw the jab but Sterling is out of range.

Sterling fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Lamez to the ground. Sterling is now in Lamez's guard.
Lamez pulls Sterling in to control the position.
Sterling slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Sterling trying to control but Lamez is working from the bottom.
Sterling is fighting to break Lamez's control of his arms but Lamez is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Lamez keeping moving, preventing Sterling from controlling successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sterling accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Sterling is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Lamez is just riding it out for now. Sterling eventually gives up the hold.

Sterling is keen to just control but Lamez is a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sterling is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Let's hope that Lamez has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Sterling shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Lamez as he avoids it easily.

Aljamain Sterling overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Sterling thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Lamez's head.

Sterling winds up and cracks Lamez with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Lamez wants to control but Sterling is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Lamez has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Lamez looks to throw the jab but Sterling is out of range.
Lamez stuffs the takedown attempt from Sterling. Sterling gets slowly back to his feet.
Lamez might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Sterling ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Lamez swats away the attempt to clinch by Sterling.
Sterling shoots in but no luck this time.
Lamez scores with the left hand. Sterling knows he should have avoided that one.

Sterling is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Lamez is surviving well by controlling Sterling's body position as best he can.
