Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 14 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brett Shoenfeld!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jobber Joe!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Colin Fotheringham and James Atkins.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Joe throws a looping overhand right but Shoenfeld ducks down to avoid it.
Shoenfeld tries to counter with a takedown but Joe is quick to defend against it.
Joe throws a poor cross that misses
and Shoenfeld counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Joe!
Shoenfeld advances to mount.
Shoenfeld tries to control but Joe wriggling away.
Shoenfeld swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Joe is now in Shoenfeld's guard. A big mistake from Shoenfeld there, giving up the dominant position!
Shoenfeld looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Joe stays in close to Shoenfeld's body and controls the position.
My spies in LA Fitness inform me that Joe has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Shoenfeld is looking to sweep but instead, Joe has passed into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Joe wants to pass the guard but Shoenfeld is defending well.
Joe is taking a breather. Shoenfeld says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Shoenfeld is looking for a sweep. Joe is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Shoenfeld is working hard here to advance position.
Shoenfeld is pressing down on Joe's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Joe stopping the sweep attempt from Shoenfeld.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Shoenfeld is on top in guard.
Shoenfeld tries to free his leg and advance position but Joe is retaining full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Shoenfeld trying to control the position from guard on top but Joe is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Joe not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Shoenfeld looking to sit in guard and control but Joe gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Joe throws a sloppy strike and Shoenfeld has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Joe is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Shoenfeld!
