PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ed Green (ranked 370 p4p, 1659 weight class) and Millard Masters (ranked 43 p4p, 173 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Masters's choice of entrance music: Enter the Sandman. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ed Green!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Millard Masters!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, William Gold and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Green shoots in and bounces Masters off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Green wants to control from the top but Masters keeps moving.
Green stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Masters swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Masters looking for a sweep. Not yet Masters, not yet.

Green advances position into side control!

Green working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Green is trying to move to mount but Masters reverses beautifully and ends up in Green's guard.

Green is trying to hold Masters in close to prevent damage but Masters has managed to pass into half guard.
Masters is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Masters wants to lay and pray for a moment but Green keeps working.

Green is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Masters pulls his head out easily.
The fighters are battling for position here. Green manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Masters wants to control from the top but Green keeps moving.
Green bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Masters's guard.

Masters controls Green momentarily but Green frees himself.

Masters is looking for a sweep. Green is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Green wants to take a breather but Masters is having none of it.

Masters is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Green pulls his head out easily.
Masters wants to get back to full guard.
Masters is looking to get back to full guard here but Green has managed to pass to side control instead.
Masters is not content to let Green control the position.
Green tries to move into full mount but can't pass Masters's legs.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Green is staying active underneath Masters, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Ed Green overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Masters is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Masters seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Green does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Masters got a little sloppy there for a moment and Green has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Masters has managed to get both his arms back between Green's legs - danger averted.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Green sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Masters works his way into side control.
Green is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Masters is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Millard Masters showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Masters moves into range and clinches up with Green.

Green will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Masters advances nicely into full mount.
Masters avoids the attempt from Green to control.
Green is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Soul Supremacy Rio, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

Green tries to lock up and control but Masters gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Masters is working for a guillotine from mount but Green frees his head quite easily.

Ed Green really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that HELLBENT logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
The defeated Millard Masters had this to say: 'Damn, I will go back to the gym and get stronger'.
