PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Luguentz Hoffman (ranked 4966 p4p, 4348 weight class) and Benjamin Angle (ranked 402 p4p, 378 weight class). Benjamin Angle has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Luguentz Hoffman !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Benjamin Angle!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hoffman throws a leg kick

and Angle counters with a nice double leg into side control. Hoffman won't be happy with that.
You can see the frustration on Hoffman 's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Angle is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Angle's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Hoffman is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hoffman makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hoffman .
Angle not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Angle avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Angle postures up in Hoffman 's guard and throws a big left but Hoffman blocks it.

Hoffman lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Angle wants to stand but Hoffman is controlling the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Angle has his hands on Hoffman 's head, controlling the position.
Angle throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
Hoffman is fighting to break Angle's control of his arms but Angle is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Hoffman avoids the body shot from Angle.

Angle gets in close and instigates a clinch.

The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

The referee is keeping an eye on Angle - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Hoffman manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Hoffman trying to keep a closed guard but Angle is proving a slippery customer.

Angle is pushing Hoffman up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Angle has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Hoffman after a bit of a struggle.
Angle is trying to push Hoffman away but Hoffman has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Hoffman takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Hoffman is looking to control Angle's arms but Angle gets an underhook and turns him. Now Hoffman has his back to the cage.

Angle doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Angle misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Hoffman is trying to break free.
Angle gets underhooks to prevent Hoffman 's takedown attempt.

A quick uppercut on the inside from Angle.
Hoffman wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Angle has him pressed against the cage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Angle fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Angle is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Hoffman is defending well for now.

Hoffman jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Angle walks away with a smile on his face. Hoffman gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Hoffman shoots for a double leg takedown but Angle sprawls well. He's pushed Hoffman 's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Luguentz Hoffman . That's going to take a lot out of him.

Benjamin Angle showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Angle instigates a clinch.
Angle is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Angle is trying to drag Hoffman to the mat but Hoffman just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Angle has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Angle is pressed up against the cage. Hoffman has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Angle down to the mat. Angle avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Angle tries to work over Hoffman 's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Hoffman escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Angle pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Angle leaves Hoffman with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Hoffman takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Angle throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Hoffman wants to clinch

and Angle counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Angle postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Angle is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Angle slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Hoffman manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Angle manages to get himself to full guard.

Angle bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hoffman 's guard.

Hoffman seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Hoffman throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Angle content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Benjamin Angle is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Angle slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Angle stands up over Hoffman , holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Angle is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Benjamin Angle comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Angle has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
