PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gee Gutsu (ranked 847 p4p, 371 weight class) and Kareem Johnson (ranked 125 p4p, 54 weight class). Kareem Johnson told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Gee Gutsu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kareem Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, William Gold and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gutsu will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Johnson looks to land a left hand but Gutsu moved out of range nicely.
Gutsu takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

It looks like Gee Gutsu has been cut.
Johnson connects with a solid leg kick.
Gutsu throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Gutsu moves into range and clinches up with Johnson.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Johnson creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Johnson is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Gutsu drops down looking for an ankle pick but Johnson pulls his leg out and moves away.

Gutsu closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Gutsu is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Johnson connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Gutsu tries to clinch up.
Gutsu tries to close the distance and clinch but Johnson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Gutsu throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Johnson has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Gutsu is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Gutsu will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Gutsu tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Johnson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Johnson slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Gutsu bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Johnson wants to slow Gutsu down by chopping away at his legs.
Gutsu tries to counter with a takedown but Johnson is quick to defend against it.

Gee Gutsu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Johnson scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

and Johnson counters with a good low kick that Gutsu was not able to check.

Gutsu shoots in but no luck this time.
Johnson looks to land a combination but Gutsu avoids it well.
Gutsu tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Johnson paws at him with a jab and circles away.

It looked like Gutsu wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Johnson showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Gutsu.
A little jabbing left from Johnson on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Gutsu fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Gutsu connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Kareem Johnson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Gutsu is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

and Johnson counters with a nice uppercut.
Gutsu throws a nice looking combination but Johnson bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gutsu takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Gee Gutsu's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Gutsu is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
That kick from Johnson tenderised Gutsu's leg. Gutsu is trying to keep his angry face on.
Johnson connects with a single shot there.
Johnson throws a leg kick that misses.

Oooooh!!! Johnson has knocked Gutsu down with a huge combo! Johnson steps away and waves a wobbly Gutsu back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

Gutsu is rocked!

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Gee Gutsu's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Kareem Johnson!
Our winner, Kareem Johnson, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
