This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 12 wins and 4 losses; Rumsfeld Shart! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Hilo, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 2 losses; Carr Cartwright! The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, John Roberts and Jorge Garcia.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Cartwright shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Shart counters by moving into the clinch. Shart is looking to take this one to the mat. Shart successfully pulls guard.
Shart pulls Cartwright in to control the position. Cartwright trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Shart manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Shart (2) vs (0) Cartwright Cartwright trying to control the position.
Shart got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cartwright has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Shart has managed to get both his arms back between Cartwright's legs - danger averted. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cartwright seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Cartwright keeping control of the position. Shart wants to work for an arm triangle but Cartwright is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Cartwright trying to keep a closed guard but Shart is proving a slippery customer.
Cartwright looking for a sweep. Not yet Cartwright, not yet. Shart trying to control but Cartwright is working from the bottom. Cartwright bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Shart's guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Shart (4) vs (7) Cartwright Shart is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Cartwright controlling from the top position. Shart is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Cartwright passes Shart's left leg - he's now in half guard. Cartwright is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Shart defends it well. Cartwright seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. It looks like Cartwright might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Cartwright tries to pass the half guard into mount. Shart knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Shart tries to get to full guard but Cartwright has control of the leg. Shart is working hard here to advance position. Cartwright is thwarting Shart's attempts to control the position. Cartwright is looking to take a break and control but Shart is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Cartwright is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Cartwright is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Shart looking for submissions off his back. Cartwright looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Cartwright working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Shart's thigh. Shart counters though and makes it back to full guard. Cartwright controlling from the top position.
And that's the end of the fight! Cartwright wins on points by 7 to 4. Rumsfeld Shart was interviewed post fight and said 'You either win or you learn, this time I learned... Ossss'. |
