Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Don Cortez (ranked 1129 p4p, 1101 weight class) and Tiago Lima (ranked 50 p4p, 47 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Don Cortez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tiago Lima! The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Chris Edwards and Andrew Berry.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cortez misses with a wild body shot. Lima on the wrong end of a nice hook. The crowd cheers as Cortez lands an impressive looking overhand right. Lima doesn't seem phased though. Lima slips under a jab from Cortez. Cortez checks the leg kick nicely there.

It looks like Don Cortez has been cut. Lima staying out of range there. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Lima! But no joy. A looping hook to the body misses from Cortez. Lima does a little dance to reset his feet. Lima misses with a looping left. Cortez misses with a jab, cross combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cortez looks to land a left hand but Lima moved out of range nicely. Don Cortez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Cortez fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Lima manages to avoid it. Cortez just misses with a punch to the body.

Tiago Lima is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. A jab lands there for Cortez. Lima lands with a right hand. Cortez throws a one two combo.
It looks like Tiago Lima has been cut. Lima fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

and Cortez counters with a stiff right hand. Lima connects with a crisp jab. Cortez manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Lima on his heels. He'll look to pass Lima's guard now, I'm sure. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Cortez's corner is telling him to maintain position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cortez trying to control the position from guard on top but Lima is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Lima looking for a sweep. Not yet Lima, not yet. Cortez lands a couple of decent looking shots. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Lima can do anything to dispel that myth. Lima is trying to keep Cortez in close.
Lima can't keep his opponent in guard - Cortez advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cortez lands strikes from half guard. Cortez takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Cortez seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Lima for as long as he can get away with.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lima tries to get to full guard but Cortez has control of the leg. Cortez passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Lima! Lima tries to reverse the position but Cortez maintains control. Cortez lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Cortez controlling from the full mount. Lima takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Cortez scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Lima is rocked! A big strike lands for Cortez! That's really hurt Lima and he's turned his back - Cortez keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Cortez jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Don Cortez! A very excited looking Don Cortez rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
