PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Albert White (ranked 1769 p4p, 1841 weight class) and Barkeep Quark (ranked 240 p4p, 250 weight class). Barkeep Quark has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Albert White!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Barkeep Quark!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
White swings away with a body shot that misses
and Quark counters with a straight right hand.
White is looking to clinch but Quark is avoiding it.

White closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Quark's guard.

Quark is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and White defends well.
Quark looking to hit a scissor sweep but White is one step ahead there.
White trying to control the position from guard on top but Quark is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
White scoring with some ground and pound.

Quark is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and White defends well.
White postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Quark throws his legs up looking for a submission but White uses it to pass to side control.

White creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
White is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
White is looking to take a break and control but Quark is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
White advances to mount.
Quark is trying to escape the mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

White lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Quark hang on?

White wants to take a breather but Quark is having none of it.

White lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

White is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Quark is just riding it out for now. White eventually gives up the hold.

White lands with a punch from half guard.
White is pressing down on Quark's thigh, looking to free his foot. Quark is holding on for now.
White working over Quark with some ground and pound. Quark looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Quark is looking to improve his position.
White trying to control from half guard but Quark is working away.
White not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
White is nestled in close to Quark, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
We've been hearing that White has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

White thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Quark's head.
Quark wants to get back to full guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Quark manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
White has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Quark wants to sweep but no luck.
White cracks Quark with a solid left hand.

White got a little sloppy there for a moment and Quark has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, White has managed to get both his arms back between Quark's legs - danger averted.
Quark looking to hit a scissor sweep but White is one step ahead there.

White makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Quark wants to stand and escape but White is having none of it.
White tries to free his leg and advance position but Quark is retaining full guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Albert White dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

and Quark counters with a straight right hand.
Quark gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
A telegraphed right hand from White misses the target.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Quark! But no joy.
Quark takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
White thows a left - swing and a miss!

Quark uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by White.

White throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Quark tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. White is in Quark's guard.

White scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Quark is trying to defend against the ground and pound but White scores with a couple of nice shots.
Quark makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Quark.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
White is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Quark is looking to sweep but instead, White has passed into half guard.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. White lands a nice short elbow.
Quark is trying to get back to full guard.
White landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Quark is looking to improve his position.
White is keen to just control but Quark is a slippery customer.
