The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Magomedsharipov checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Garces looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Garces shoots in for a takedown but Magomedsharipov shows good takedown defense.
Garces gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Magomedsharipov counters with a left and a right that hurts Garces! He wobbles and falls to the floor - he's in big trouble! Magomedsharipov jumps into full mount!

Magomedsharipov wants to stand up but Garces has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Magomedsharipov decides to stand and escape the position.
Garces throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Magomedsharipov lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Nice takedown defense from Magomedsharipov. No joy for Garces on that attempt.

Magomedsharipov throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
A punch lands to the side of Garces 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Garces rushes Magomedsharipov and presses him up against the cage.

Garces shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Magomedsharipov but Magomedsharipov pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Garces shoots for a double leg takedown but Magomedsharipov sprawls well. He's pushed Garces's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Magomedsharipov is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Garces lands a nice leg kick that just misses Magomedsharipov's sensitive parts.

Magomedsharipov blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Garces escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

and Magomedsharipov counters with a left and a right... and another left... and another!! That last one turned off the lights! Garces has no idea who he is and is as he gazes up at the spotlights. Brutal knockout!

Islam Magomedsharipov decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
